Skills for innovation

Investing in capacity building on innovation, in the Justice sector, is critical to:

  • ensure the effective continuity of the transformation projects already developed;
  • accelerate the implementation of the planned innovations, some of which are part of the ambitious agenda of reforms and projects under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

To address these needs, the Ministry of Justice designed Skills for Innovation, a Competence Programme for Innovation in Justice, promoted in the scope of the Justice Hub.

Justice LAB

In October 2022, the Ministry of Justice launched Justice LAB, an Advanced Programme on Innovation and Culture. This was the first intensive training programme designed specifically to meet the current and concrete challenges of the Justice bodies and entities.

Coordinated by the Institute for Financial and Estate Management of Judicial Services and developed by ISEG – Lisbon School of Economics & Management of University of Lisbon and Nova School of Business & Economics, this programme aims to enhance the skills of the Justice human resources in the areas of strategic management, digital transition, and leadership in a changing context.

In its first edition, the Justice LAB was targeted at project leaders and managers. Its expansion to other profiles and needs, in articulation with the transversal competence programmes for public innovation, is already planned.

The ongoing training, which runs until March 2023, covers one hundred participants from 18 Justice bodies and entities.

Innovation Workshops

A set of Innovation Workshops, linking theory and practice, on matters associated with organisational and technological innovation, leadership and project management, and strategic and digital communication, is planned.

These working sessions are targeted at different professionals in the Justice sector, from managers to technicians, and are also open to lawyers and law students.

In order to facilitate participation from different locations, within or outside Portugal, the workshops will be delivered in a hybrid mode, both in-person and online.

This package of sessions was developed in partnership with Inovalegal – Portuguese Institute for Legal and Technological Innovation.
